2015 Expanded Green Car Awards
2015 Washington Auto Show to Host Expanded Green Car Awards
Green Car Journal to Honor Top ‘Green’ Vehicles in Technology, Vision, and Luxury Categories
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 10, 2014 –The 2015 Washington Auto Show is again highlighting its focus on environmental achievement this coming January with an expanded Green Car Awards™ program. Held during the show’s second Policy Day, January 22, and presented by industry authority Green Car Journal, the Green Car Awards press conference will honor winners of the 2015 Green Car Technology Award, Green Car Vision Award, and all-new Luxury Green Car of the Year.
“The need for increasingly efficient, environmentally positive vehicles in all classes of vehicles is clear,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. “Automakers are stepping up to meet the challenge in a very big way, with efforts in creating ‘greener’ vehicles transcending just small cars and traditional approaches. Their use of innovative ‘green’ technologies in all vehicle categories, visionary approaches to improving environmental impact, and an inclusive focus on aspirational vehicles all deserve to be recognized.”
Presented annually at the Washington Auto Show, Green Car Journal’s Green Car Technology Award™ program considers 10 enabling technology finalists deemed key to helping vehicles achieve important efficiency, energy diversity, or environmental performance goals. The Cadillac ELR’s ‘Regen on Demand’ system was honored as the Green Car Technology Award winner in 2014 with Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology honored in 2013.
“As the central address where the auto industry meets public policy, The Washington Auto Show recognizes the critical role of sustainability in this sector and our role in promoting progress,” said Kevin Reilly, chairman, The Washington Auto Show. “We are thrilled to partner with the Green Car Journal in putting those issues front and center.”
The Green Car Vision Award™ returns to the Washington Auto Show with the mission of identifying a deserving winner among five currently-available finalist vehicles that exhibit remarkable environmental achievement, but may be available in limited numbers or only in specific geographic locations. This focus has evolved from past years when the award evaluated advanced vehicles in demonstration programs or in their early stages of commercialization, but not yet on sale. Previous winners of the Green Car Vision Award™ include the Nissan LEAF and the Chevy Volt.
All-new to the Washington Auto Show, the Luxury Green Car of the Year™ award acknowledges the growing trend toward luxury, executive, and aspirational models that provide their expected high-end driving experience while also delivering significantly improved environmental performance. Five finalists will vie for top honors at the Washington Auto Show.
By virtue of rising to the top as finalists in the Green Car Awards™, all award nominees additionally earn Green Car Journal’s 2015 Product of Excellence honor, an acknowledgement of their important environmental achievements.
