U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao to Deliver Keynote for Future Mobility Conference

Washington, D.C. Autos2050®, the premier tech and policy event created by 12 automakers who are transforming mobility, announced today that U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao will open the conference on April 2, 2019 with the keynote address.

“U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao has provided strong leadership by engaging with innovative safety technologies, including self-driving vehicles,” said Dave Schwietert Interim President & CEO of the Auto Alliance. “These innovations have the potential to provide positive social benefits such as greater personal freedom and independence for the elderly, people with disabilities and others seeking improved access to mobility.”

The Autos2050® conference focuses on charting a roadmap for the future, with a special emphasis on how we can spur innovation today in order to see benefits sooner. Speakers will highlight trends and advancements over the past year, especially regarding autonomous vehicles.

In 2018, DOT issued its updated Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Policy Guidance (3.0) that provided greater clarity to automakers and their technology partners working on promising systems to enhance roadway safety, expand access to mobility, and ensure the U.S. continues to lead the safe development, testing, and deployment of AVs. In addition, DOT’s recently announced AV Pilot Program will help advance the testing and deployment of AV technologies so public safety remains a top priority.

The Autos2050® Luncheon/Conference begins at noon on Tuesday, April 2 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Visit for the full line-up of speakers and to register.
