Organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan
Smart Cities address challenges in cities and create new solutions using emerging technologies. On November 4th, 2019, the Government of Japan and the United States of America released a joint statement on furthering the development of Smart Cities in the Indo-Pacific. Along with the cooperation of the digital economy between Japan and the United States to advance a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), smart cities are one of the top priorities for this cooperation. Japan and the United States intend to share their cities’ experience and expertise with the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) to further ASEAN’s vision for a more integrated and connected community, as mentioned in the joint statement.
This event will focus on the best methods for global collaboration and the deployment of smart cities, which could prove mutually beneficial to both citizens and society. After keynote speeches, panelists will discuss the role of governments, including local governments, the importance of the Public-Private Partnership for promoting smart cities with participation from governments, industries, and ASEAN countries. The panels will also introduce smart city initiatives by ASEAN, including ASEAN Smart City Network (ASCN), and discuss the possibility of cooperation among Japan, the United States, and ASEAN.
We plan to have a networking reception for all participants with Japanese food. Please enjoy Sushi!
